Dabo. Dabo, Dabo, Dabo. You had to poke the bear, huh? You had to disrespect the team you were facing in the College Football Playoff, huh? Not a good idea, Dabo, especially when the team you’re trolling is as loaded as Ohio State is. Dabo Swinney should not have ranked the Buckeyes #11.
But he did.
Then he had to eat crow.
Lots and lots and lots and lots of crow.
Bulletin Board Material
A team like OSU needs no extra motivation, but Dabo Swinney simply couldn’t help himself. Was a six-win team simply gonna waltz into the CFP to play the mighty Clemson Tigers? His mighty Clemson Tigers? No sir! Not in Dabo’s world! He put the Buckeyes at #11 on principle, as he refused to put a team in the top 10 that hadn’t played at least nine games. I’m sure he would have treated his own team the same way had Clemson not been able to play nine games, right? (No shot)
The committee, of course, did not agree with Dabo Swinney. They put OSU at #3, setting them up for a matchup against Clemson. What ensued was a thrashing, as Justin Fields rediscovered his groove on the way to over 400 yards of total offense and six touchdowns. The Buckeyes disposed of the Tigers, 49-28.
The start of a running joke
Dabo Swinney ranking OSU #11 will be mocked forever. He’s an all-time great coach, but c’mon, that’s just too perfect. Swinney has always been a bit preachy in my opinion. He occasionally comes off as holier-than-thou. So I don’t mind at all that he will probably become a meme, to be associated with being soundly beaten by a team you disrespected. It’s gonna be hysterical.
You deserve it, Dabo. Don’t use the Coaches Poll to make a statement about the validity of another team’s season, which took place during a global pandemic. All of college football is janky in 2020. The OSU Buckeyes have a hell of a team, as shown by their thorough ass-whooping of your (overrated) Tigers.
I can’t wait to see the College GameDay signs related to this.
